Osh Airport (code OSS) is about 9 km north of the city. It has several daily flights to Bishkek (Aero Nomad, Asman, Avia Traffic and Sky FRU) and international service to Istanbul, Sharjah, Jeddah, Kuwait, Muscat, Almaty, Tashkent and many Russian cities, but none from India, Pakistan or Bangladesh: students fly to Bishkek and connect, or route through Sharjah or Istanbul. The road to Bishkek crosses the mountains and takes most of a day. Uzbekistan's border is a few kilometres away.

Kyrgyzstan's second city, with a population of about 455,000 in 2024, mostly Kyrgyz and Uzbek. Sulayman Mountain in the centre is the country's only World Heritage Site. The bazaar that traded on the same spot for about 2,000 years was demolished along the Ak-Buura river in 2025 and moved a few kilometres north. Russian and Uzbek are heard as much as Kyrgyz; English is rare outside the universities.

Osh State University runs its own medical clinic on the Ak-Buura campus, opened in 2014, and a clinical skills centre opened in 2017 with Swiss support, with simulation departments for paediatrics, therapy, surgery and obstetrics. A seven-storey university clinic with 312 beds was under construction in 2025 and was expected to open by the end of that year; we have not confirmed that it has. The faculty's handbook says classes also run in the city's and region's leading hospitals, which it does not name.

Osh State University lists 9 dormitories with 1,773 places and publishes no price for foreign students; Kyrgyz-Uzbek International University publishes neither. Rents in Osh are lower than in Bishkek, but we have found no 2026 figure from a Kyrgyz source and do not print agent estimates. Ask the school's international office for the hostel price in writing.

Emergency numbers are 112, 102 for police and 103 for an ambulance; operators outside Bishkek and Osh usually speak only Russian or Kyrgyz. There is no Indian, Pakistani or Bangladeshi consulate in Osh; the embassies are in Bishkek (Bangladesh in Tashkent). Osh saw inter-ethnic violence in June 2010 between Kyrgyz and Uzbek residents; the May 2024 attacks on foreign students were in Bishkek, not Osh.
