Disadvantages of studying MBBS in Kyrgyzstan
Agents sell MBBS in Kyrgyzstan on price and on an English-taught course that starts without an entrance exam. Both are true. The problems are in what they leave out, and most of them are a matter of record. This page lists the drawbacks we can document, with sources, so you can weigh them against the cost before you pay anyone.
1. The 2026 accreditation closed 13 schools and put 7 more on probation
In May 2026 the Ministry of Health assessed all 34 institutions that train doctors. 4 passed for six years, 3 state universities were exempt, 7 passed for one year only, 13 failed and 7 did not apply. The failed schools had their licences suspended from 7 Sep 2026 and their students were reassigned to other universities by ministry order. A student who enrolled at one of them in 2023 now holds records from one institution and will graduate from another.
The one-year schools are assessed again in 2027. Nobody knows the outcome, and the Embassy of India has advised its citizens to avoid them. That leaves seven schools a cautious family would consider, and demand from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh will concentrate on them.

2. Most graduates do not pass the home licensing exam at the first attempt
Indian citizens with a foreign degree must pass the FMGE to practise in India. These are the counts for all candidates who trained in Kyrgyzstan, from the NBEMS institution-wise reports:
- 3,792 of 15,135 candidates passedFMGE 2024 (June and December combined)
- 976 of 6,293 candidates passedFMGE June 2025
- 1,503 of 7,437 candidates passedFMGE December 2025
For Pakistan, PM&DC's NRE in December 2025: 951 of 4,256 candidates passed among graduates of Kyrgyz schools. These are national patterns, not a judgement on any one school; each school's own counts are on its page, and we do not rank schools by them. But a family should plan for the possibility of a second or third attempt, with the coaching costs and the lost year that go with it.

3. Your home regulator's rules may not fit the course you are sold
The NMC's 2021 regulations require at least 54 months of study plus a 12-month internship at the same institution, teaching in English, and registration with the Kyrgyz regulator. Several schools here sell a five-year English programme; whether its final year is an internship that the NMC will count is a question to put to the school in writing, not to an agent. PM&DC, since 31 July 2026, lets only graduates of ECFMG-recognised schools sit the NRE, and 13 of the 34 schools have no ECFMG note in the World Directory of Medical Schools. Bangladesh's rules are still being checked.
The country box on every school page applies these rules to that school. Nothing on this site says "NMC approved", because the NMC publishes no such list.

4. The wards run in Russian and Kyrgyz
Lectures may be in English. Patients, nurses and most hospital doctors speak Russian or Kyrgyz. Clinical years in a language you do not speak mean watching rather than doing, so the Russian you learn in the first two years decides how much the later years are worth. Only a few schools own a clinic; most place students in city hospitals under agreements, and since 2026 accredited private schools must sign agreements with the Kyrgyz State Medical Academy. Ask any school where its clinical teaching happens and in which language.
5. Fees are mostly unpublished, and the price has a floor now
Only four of the 34 schools publish an official fee. For the rest, the figures on agent websites are all that exists, and they disagree with each other. In April 2026 the government set a minimum of USD 3,000 a year for foreign students (USD 3,500 at KSMA) and routed foreign admissions through a single state portal, so the cheapest offers from 2022 and 2023 no longer exist. On top of tuition come the hostel, meals, medical insurance, residence registration, a return flight each year and, if you use an agent, a commission that is rarely disclosed. Fees on this site are per year in USD; choose your country above to see them in your currency, and treat anything labelled "estimate" as exactly that.

6. Hostels vary, and little about them is verified
Most schools say they have a hostel. Few publish the price, the number of students per room, whether men and women are housed separately, or who provides security. We record each of those as a labelled field on the school page and leave it as "not yet confirmed" until we have seen it. Expect shared rooms, winter heating that depends on the building, and food that is not what you are used to. Students who move to private flats after the first year save money and lose the university's help with residence registration, which you must keep valid.
7. Safety: May 2024 happened
On the night of 17 to 18 May 2024, crowds attacked hostels where foreign students lived in Bishkek after a video of a fight involving Egyptian students spread online. The Health Ministry counted 29 injured; the Interior Ministry later said 33. More than a thousand Pakistani students left within days. Ten people were detained and nine criminal cases opened. We found no comparable incident since, and the government has promised faster policing, but the conditions that produced it have not gone away. The full account, with emergency numbers and embassy contacts, is on the student safety page.
8. The rules keep changing, and transferred students are still waiting
In less than two years Kyrgyzstan has introduced a state admissions portal, a minimum fee, a moratorium on new medical programmes reported to run until the end of 2027, a state accreditation that closed 13 schools, and a transfer order that moved their students. In September 2026 more than two thousand Indian students moved under that order were still waiting to hear from the NMC how their degrees would be treated. Anyone enrolling now should assume the rules will change again during a five or six year course, and should keep every receipt, enrolment letter and transcript from day one.

What the other side looks like
Tuition at the schools that can enrol is lower than in most of Europe, several teach in English, the entry requirements are the home country's own exam thresholds rather than a competitive entrance test, and seven institutions are now accredited for six years or exempt by law. Those are real advantages for a family that cannot afford a seat at home. They do not cancel the list above; they are what you weigh it against.
If you still go
- Choose only from the seven that can enrol, and check the result yourself on the ministry list.
- Apply through the official portal or the admissions office shown on the school page here, not through a number that contacted you first.
- Get the course length, the internship arrangement and the fee for every year in writing, on university paper, before paying.
- Start Russian before you arrive.
Common questions about the disadvantages of studying MBBS in Kyrgyzstan
- Is studying MBBS in Kyrgyzstan worth it?
It depends on the school and on what you will do with the degree. In 2026 the state closed 13 of the 34 institutions to new students and put 7 on a one-year term; the 7 that can enrol without conditions are listed on this site. In the FMGE, the Indian licensing exam, 3,792 of 15,135 candidates from Kyrgyz schools passed in 2024, 976 of 6,293 in June 2025 and 1,503 of 7,437 in December 2025 (NBEMS counts). Tuition at the schools that can enrol runs from about USD 3,400 to USD 7,900 a year. Those are the facts to weigh; this site does not rank countries.
- Is Kyrgyzstan good for MBBS for Indian students?
The answer in 2026 has two halves. The accredited schools teach in English, cost less than most of Europe and ask for a qualifying NEET result rather than an entrance exam. Against that: the NMC's 2021 regulations require at least 54 months of study plus a 12-month internship at the same institution, clinical years run largely in Russian, and the exam counts above show how many graduates pass at the first attempt. Read the India guide for the regulator's rules and the FMGE page for the counts by school.
- Which is better for MBBS, Georgia or Kyrgyzstan? Kazakhstan or Kyrgyzstan?
This site does not rank countries. It has a sourced side-by-side page for each: accreditation systems, the 2026 changes in each country, course length, the fees the universities publish, hostels and rent, FMGE counts for both countries, and how you apply. A page that ranks the three countries without naming its sources is an opinion.
- What are the main disadvantages of studying medicine in Kyrgyzstan?
The eight on this page: the 2026 accreditation shake-up that closed 13 schools; licensing exam results at home; the home regulator's conditions on course length and internship; clinical exposure in Russian; fees that several schools do not publish; agents and the commission they earn; the May 2024 violence against foreign students in Bishkek and what followed; and the cold, polluted Bishkek winter. Each section gives the source.
