Medical schools accredited for one year only

7 institutions passed the May 2026 assessment with conditions and received a one-year term instead of six. They may enrol students now, but the ministry assesses them again in 2027, and the outcome then is not known.

What a one-year term means

The commission found shortcomings it expects the school to fix within a year. If the 2027 reassessment goes well, the school moves to a full term. If it does not, the school joins the failed list, its licence can be suspended, and its students are transferred elsewhere under a ministry order, as happened to 13 institutions in 2026. A student who enrols now accepts that risk for the whole course, because a transfer mid-course changes the institution on the degree.

The Embassy of India's advice

On 13 Jul 2026 the Embassy of India in Bishkek advised Indian students not to seek admission to institutions that failed accreditation or received a one-year term. The advisory is not a ban, and it is not an NMC rule, but it is the clearest official signal available to Indian families. Pakistani and Bangladeshi students have no equivalent notice from their own regulators as of the last check.

On 25 Aug 2026 the Embassy issued a clarification: the Kyrgyz "Foreign Student Admission Office" told it that the one-year term of Kyrgyz National University and Jalal-Abad State University, both state universities, is "procedural in nature" and tied to the stage of their accreditation cycle, not to concerns about quality, and that Indian students "may take admission" there. The other five one-year institutions are not covered by that clarification.

Which programmes each school is accredited for

The Ministry of Health accredited institutions programme by programme. A tick means that programme is in the 29 May 2026 decision for that school; a blank means it is not. General Medicine runs as a 5-year and a 6-year track, and a school may hold one or both. Check that the track on your offer letter is one that is ticked here.

Common questions

Can I take admission in a university accredited for one year?

Legally yes: a one-year term allows enrolment. The Embassy of India advised Indian students on 13 July 2026 not to seek admission at one-year institutions, then on 25 August 2026 wrote that the one-year term of Kyrgyz National University and Jalal-Abad State University is procedural, tied to their accreditation cycle, and that students may take admission there. The other five one-year schools are not covered by that clarification.

What happens to one-year schools in 2027?

Their certificates run from 29 May 2026 for one year, so the Ministry of Health assesses them again before June 2027. A school that passes moves to a full term; one that does not joins the failed list, its licence can be suspended and its students are transferred under a ministry order, as happened to 13 institutions in 2026. A student who enrols now accepts that risk for the whole course.

Does a one-year accreditation affect my degree?

Not while the accreditation is valid: the school issues state-recognised diplomas and may teach the programmes listed in the table above. The risk is the 2027 reassessment; a transfer mid-course changes the institution named on your degree, and for Indian students the NMC's treatment of a transferred degree is an open question, explained on the failed-school guide.
