Is a Kyrgyz MBBS degree valid abroad?
"Valid" is the wrong word, and agents use it on purpose. No country simply accepts a foreign medical degree; each one sets conditions on the school and then tests the graduate. The conditions on the school are few and checkable. The tests on the graduate are the hard part, and they come after the degree.
Going home to practise
Most students in Kyrgyzstan go home. The rules there are the ones that matter first, and each school page has a box for every country below; choose yours above and the page shows only that box.
- India
- The NMC publishes no list of approved universities. Check the state accreditation, the teaching language and the course length against its 2021 regulations on each school page.
- Pakistan
- Since 31 July 2026, PM&DC admits only graduates of ECFMG-recognised foreign schools to the NRE. The ECFMG column shows which schools have that recognition.
- Bangladesh
- Every Kyrgyz university is in the Second Schedule of the BM&DC Act, so the school-level question is only the 2026 accreditation. After graduating you sit BM&DC's Registration Qualifying Examination, then do a one-year internship in Bangladesh.
- Egypt
- Egypt equates a foreign medical degree only if the university is on the Supreme Council of Universities' recognised list. Ask each school for its SCU reference before you pay; we have not checked that list ourselves.
- Morocco
- Morocco grants equivalence of a foreign medical degree through a ministry commission that can require extra training or a hospital placement, and the Ordre des médecins will not register you without it.
- Kazakhstan
- Kazakhstan requires recognition (nostrification) of a foreign medical diploma by its national centre, with an expert review for medical documents, followed by the Ministry of Health's specialist certification before you can practise.
The five facts Western regulators check about the school
A small number of graduates try to practise in a Western country after their degree, usually after first getting licensed at home. Every one of these routes is long, costs thousands of dollars in exams and tests after the degree, and depends on a visa. The part that depends on the school is the same five facts for all of them.
- Listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools
- Required by ECFMG (USA), the GMC (UK) and the Medical Board of Australia; the degree title and course length must match the listing.
- ECFMG note in the WDOMS entry
- Without it a graduate cannot apply for ECFMG certification, the first step for the USA, and the AMC uses ECFMG to verify degrees.
- Canada Sponsor Note in the WDOMS entry
- Required by the Medical Council of Canada for the graduation years it covers; it is separate from the ECFMG note. "Not checked" means we have not yet read the Sponsor Notes tab for this school.
- International accreditation by a WFME-recognised agency, in force
- ECFMG reports whether a school meets its Recognized Accreditation Policy to US residency programmes; expired accreditation is visible to them.
- Taught in English
- English-medium study is not a formal gate anywhere, but every route requires an English test (IELTS or OET) and the clinical years decide whether you can pass it.
Schools that clear the four verified gates today and can enrol (5)
The Canada Sponsor Note is counted separately below because it has not yet been checked for every school.
KRSU, Osh State University, IUK, IHSM, Asian International University.
Clear the four but cannot enrol (8)
Jalal-Abad State University (accredited for 1 year), Kyrgyz-Uzbek International University (accredited for 1 year), JAIU (accredited for 1 year), IEU (accredited for 1 year), ADAM University (failed), Altamimi (failed), Ala-Too (failed), IMU (failed). A school that failed state accreditation or holds a one-year term may still clear these gates on paper; that does not make it a safe choice. See the failed list and the one-year list.
Do not clear the four (21)
KSMA, Manas University, Kyrgyz National University, Issyk-Kul State University, University of South Asia, Avicenna, RMU, KMSI, Salymbekov University, Eurasian International University, BIMI, IUMS, CAIMU, OIMU, Arabaev University, Batken State University, Naryn State University, Kyrgyz National Agrarian University, MUNiB, Kyrgyz International University NRZ, Zamanbap Medical Institute. The missing fact for each is shown in the "Working abroad later" section of its page. "Not found" for the World Directory or the ECFMG note means not found by our search, which is not proof of absence.

United States
ECFMG certification first: a degree from a school with an ECFMG note, USMLE Step 1, Step 2 CK, and an English test, then a residency place through the Match on a visa. Since late 2024 ECFMG also reports to residency programmes whether the school is accredited by a WFME-recognised agency; that is a notation, not a bar to certification. International graduates win residency places far less often than US graduates, and without a residency there is no licence.

Canada
The Medical Council of Canada accepts a degree only from a school that was listed in the World Directory when the student graduated and whose listing carries a Canada Sponsor Note for those graduation years; that note is separate from the ECFMG note and is the fifth gate above. Then source verification of the diploma through the MCC, the MCCQE written exam, the NAC clinical exam, and a residency place through the CaRMS match, where international graduates compete for a small quota of positions, often with a return-of-service obligation. Each province licenses separately.

United Kingdom
The GMC accepts an overseas degree only if the awarding school is in the World Directory and the degree title, length and awarding body match the listing, the degree gives the right to practise and do an internship in Kyrgyzstan, and the course met the GMC's content and hours criteria. Then an English test, the PLAB exams (being replaced by the UK Medical Licensing Assessment), GMC registration and a sponsored job. The GMC warns that its criteria change and a qualification accepted today may not stay accepted.

Australia
The Standard pathway: a primary degree from a school recognised by both the AMC and the World Directory, verification of the degree through ECFMG, the AMC written exam (CAT MCQ), then the AMC clinical exam or a workplace-based assessment with few places, provisional registration and 12 months of supervised practice before general registration. An English test is required throughout.
European Union (Germany as the example)
There is no EU-wide rule for a non-EU medical degree; each country decides. In Germany the state authority reviews the degree for equivalence with a German one; non-EU degrees are usually found only partly equivalent, so the applicant sits the Kenntnisprüfung, a clinical knowledge exam, after the Fachsprachprüfung, a medical German exam at roughly C1 level, before receiving the Approbation. Procedures differ by state and typically take one to two years. Ireland, France, the Nordic countries and the rest each run their own procedure.
Common questions about whether a Kyrgyz MBBS degree is valid abroad
- Is MBBS in Kyrgyzstan valid in India?
A Kyrgyz medical degree lets you sit the Indian screening exam only if the course met the NMC's 2021 Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulations: at least 54 months of study, a 12-month internship at the same institution, English-medium teaching, and registration with the local regulator. The NMC publishes no list of approved universities, so no school can truthfully be called NMC approved. After that, the FMGE decides; the counts by school and session are on the FMGE page.
- Is a Kyrgyzstan MBBS degree valid in Pakistan?
Since 31 July 2026 the PM&DC allows only graduates of institutions recognised by ECFMG to sit the National Registration Examination. Each school page here shows whether the school appears in the ECFMG list and from which years. A degree from a school that does not appear there does not lead to registration in Pakistan under the current notice.
- Is a Kyrgyz medical degree valid in the USA, UK, Canada or Australia?
Each of those regulators checks a short set of facts about the school (the five gates on this page: WDOMS listing, ECFMG recognition, the Canada Sponsor Note, and the rest) and then examines the graduate: USMLE for the United States, PLAB or the UKMLA for the United Kingdom, the MCCQE for Canada, the AMC exams for Australia. The tables above show which Kyrgyz schools clear the verified gates today. Clearing them makes the exams possible, not easy.
- Which countries accept a medical degree from Kyrgyzstan?
None accepts it outright. Every country listed on this page sets conditions on the school, then tests the graduate; the table shows the conditions for India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Egypt, Morocco, Kazakhstan, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia and the European Union, with the regulator's document for each.
What this means in practice
A student from India or Pakistan who wants to end up in the USA or the UK is choosing a route of six years of study plus two to five years of exams, verification, English tests, visa applications and waiting, with no guarantee at the end. The degree is the easy part. Choose the school on the home-country rules and the state result; treat the Western route as a possibility to keep open, which means picking a school that clears the four gates, and nothing more.
