MBBS in Kyrgyzstan for Pakistani students

Is a Kyrgyzstan MBBS degree valid in Pakistan? Yes, on two conditions, and no without them. Since PM&DC's notice of 31 July 2026, a graduate of a foreign medical school may sit the National Registration Examination (NRE) only if the school is ECFMG-recognised, which means an ECFMG note in its World Directory of Medical Schools entry; and you must then pass the NRE, which 951 of 4,256 Kyrgyz-trained candidates did in December 2025. A degree from a school without the ECFMG note, or from one that failed Kyrgyzstan's 2026 state accreditation, does not lead to registration in Pakistan.

Two separate tests decide whether a Kyrgyz medical school is a real option for you. PM&DC must let you sit the National Registration Examination (NRE) after you graduate, which since 31 July 2026 means the school must be ECFMG-recognised. And the school must be allowed to enrol you now, which depends on the Ministry of Health's 2026 state accreditation.

Where will you practise?

What Pakistan requires

Since its public notice of 31 July 2026, the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PM&DC) admits only graduates of ECFMG-recognised foreign institutions to the National Registration Examination (NRE). Its older list of foreign institutions covered admissions up to 2024-25 only. To be eligible you also need at least 50 marks out of 100 in MDCAT and 60 out of 100 in FSc or equivalent.

Before the 2026 notice, PM&DC (and the PMC before it) worked from a list of recognised foreign institutions. In November 2020 the PMC council put five Kyrgyz schools on that list: KSMA, Osh State University, KRSU, IHSM and IUK. PM&DC has said the old list applies only to students admitted up to 2024-25. For admissions from 2025-26 the ECFMG rule is what counts.

What the 2026 accreditation means for you

The Ministry of Health assessed all 34 institutions in May 2026. 4 passed for six years and 3 state universities are exempt by law; those 7 hold full accreditation. 7 received a one-year term and are reassessed in 2027. 13 failed and lost their licences, and 7 did not apply; none of those can take a new student, whatever an agent says.

These can enrol now but are reassessed by the ministry in 2027. If a school then fails, its students are transferred and the institution named on the degree changes. What a one-year term means.

What it costs

Only four schools publish an official fee; the rest are agent-reported estimates, labelled as such on every page. In April 2026 the government set a minimum of USD 3,000 a year for foreign students (USD 3,500 at KSMA), so any offer below that is not a real university fee. Add the hostel, meals, medical insurance, residence registration and flights. Fees on this page are in PKR at a mid-market rate dated on the page, with the USD figure kept beside each one.
